John 1: Testifying God’s Original Intent
📖 John 1:1, 14–15, 18
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
– John 1:1, 14 (ESV)
Jesus: The Word, the Blueprint, the Dream of God
From the very first verse of John’s Gospel, we are confronted with a staggering truth: Jesus is the Word. In Greek, Logos — the divine expression, the very will, mind, desire, and voice of God.
Jesus is not just a messenger — He is the message. He is the quintessence of humanity and divinity, God’s perfect dream for what a human should be, and the full self-revelation of who God is. Everything God intended — His original intent for creation, His longing for relationship, His ways, His kingdom — is wrapped up in the person of Jesus.
The Word Became Flesh
This divine Logos did not remain distant. He put on flesh and lived among us — not just to be admired, but to be known, followed, and emulated.
John the Baptist understood this. He wasn’t the light, but he lived to testify about the Light. He knew who he wasn’t so he could clearly declare who Jesus is. In the same way, you and I are called to be witnesses — not of a philosophy, not of a system, but of a Person.
We are called to testify of this Man who is God.
You Exist to Reveal Him
You were not created to drift through life or build your own kingdom. You were made to know Jesus, to be convinced of who He is, and to become like Him in every way.
Just like John the Baptist, we are not the light, but we are sent to bear witness to the Light — to proclaim through our lives, our words, our priorities: “Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” The clearer your vision of Jesus, the clearer your calling becomes. He is the center. He is the goal. He is our aim.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, You are the Word — the fullness of the Father’s heart, dreams, and will. I worship You as the perfect image of God and the perfect image of redeemed humanity. Teach me to behold You more clearly and testify about You more boldly. Letmy life be a reflection of Your truth and grace. Help me to become like You in every way — for You are my aim, my treasure, and my purpose. Amen.
