Awakened to the SCRIPTURES

And he said to me, “Son of man, eat whatever you find here. Eat this scroll, and go, speak to the house of Israel.” So I opened my mouth, and he gave me this scroll to eat. And he said to me, “Son of man, feed your belly with this scroll that I give you and fill your stomach with it.” Then I ate it, and it was in my mouth as sweet as honey.

Ezekiel 3:1-3

If you take the supernatural out of the Bible, you will only be left with the covers. We serve a supernatural God who governs both the natural and the spiritual realm. The greater the pursuit of holiness and a life devoted to God will bring an influx of divine dreams, visions and revelation. The Bible is not a fairy tale. It is a library of books that pulls back the curtains to see the spirit realm. The Bible is a window into the supernatural realm that is invisible to the natural eye, but those who have faith, eyes enlightened and illuminated by the Holy Spirit. If you want to go deep in God, leave your offenses behind and receive God’s word as Truth in your life and you will live supernatural, beyond natural limitations.

In 2016, When I was reading the sermon on the Mount, the veil over my eyes were lifted and it dawned on me that I was reading the very words of God. I had revelation that I had direct access to the President of the Cosmos. He was not speaking to me through the prophets, but by reading the Sermon on the Mount, it felt as though I was on-location, listening to the very words of God Himself. It hit me like a 2 ton truck and I became in awe of Jesus. Mike Bickle said, “the best kept secret in the church is Jesus.” Familiarity breeds contempt. Over familiarity of the scriptures can cause us to become calloused to the magnitude of His Words. The writer of Hebrews expressed it well:

‘Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. Hebrews 1:1-2

When we become awakened to the magnificence of the Word of God and it becomes the source by which we receive revelation of God’s heart, we understand His divine instructions on how to live.

The unfortunate reality is that even though we have in our possession the very words of God recorded in a library of 66 books called the Bible, we find ourselves entrenched in worldly entertainment and Facebook, more than getting our faces in the Book. Perhaps this generation is the most biblically illiterate generation as we are daily bombarded with social media and influences of culture.

The temptation of those who are affluent and live comfortable lives is that we spend more time beautifying our backyards than brining healing to God’s broken world. At the end of our lives, that will be the Lord’s indictment against us. We were given the greatest gift — the Word of God give us clear instructions on how to live, but we squandered it by being caught up with the temptations of the world.

We’ve all been given a measure of time and energy. We are restless people. We were designed to work and expend energy. As long as we’re alive, we’re busy doing something. But the unfortunate reality is that we expend all of our time and energy on things that do not matter eternally. We are so distracted by many things that we’ve lost focus of what is most important in life, which is to gaze into the face of Jesus.

Mary and Martha were sisters during the time when Jesus was on earth. Martha as busy serving the guests and got very angry at her sister, Mary who sat at the feet of Jesus, hanging on his every word. Martha glared at her sister and expressed her anger and Jesus answered her saying, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary.Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41-42)

God is calling us to be a people of One Thing, a singleness of mind and focus on Jesus while we have the life in these bodies. Busyness is one of the devil’s tricks to keep us running around without actually accomplishing anything. Mary chose the good part - she sat at the feet of Jesus and Jesus said that what she was doing would not be taken away from her - it would echo into eternity.

The Dream

In the third dream I had in 2020, I believe I was somewhere in the Middle East and I was in a room full of Arab brothers. Innately I knew I was about to be executed in a few hours and one of the Arab brothers was frantically telling me, “plead for your life.” I must have been a Christian, because I wasn’t too nervous and I was about to accept the fact that I would be martyred for God, but what really disturbed me was that as I scrambled through my memory to find any scripture that could comfort me, I came up with nothing. It occurred to me that in the final hours of my life, I had not developed a history with God in His Word. I woke up in a cold Sweat. I was convicted to spend my time in the Word of God in preparation for that day when it comes, so that I will not be rudely awakened to that kind of end.

When God speaks through His Word, dreams and visions, they are alway prophetic in nature. He gives his instructions ahead of time so that we that we use our time on earth wisely. God never forces his way on us, but always gives us the choice to listen to His voice.

The Bible is filled with men and women of God who listened to Gods words and the favor of God followed them and helped them in every circumstance.

Legend has it that Abraham’s father was an idol maker. During a time when people were far away from God, Abraham found favor with God and God spoke to him.

“Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.””

Genesis 12:1-3 ESV

Abraham didn’t know where He was going, but he simply obeyed what He heard from the Lord and we can see all throughout Abraham’s life, he experienced continual favor. Even when he made the mistake of lying about his wife saying that she was his sister to King Abimelech, God still called him a prophet and Abraham came out richer than when he went into that city leaving with Abimelechs livestock. When you’re under the favor of God, God works on your behalf.

When the Angel Gabriel came to Mary, he responded with obedience and she had the the highest honor of birthing the Son of God into the world. She became the fulfillment of the prophecy given in Genesis 3:15 about a woman’s offspring giving birth to the one who would crush the serpents head. She was the channel through which the transcendent God stepped down from heaven unto earth. She changed history because of her obedience. She will forever be known as the mother who birthed God into the world.

Countless numbers of people in the Bible walked under great anointing and favor, because they chose to say “yes” to God.

King Joash had a choice whether to strike the ground ten times following his purpose or three times dictated by his patterns. His past sins and patterns found him out and he passively struck the ground three times and was unable to see the total destruction of his enemies. Similarly, in our own lives, we’ve allowed our past patterns determine the decisions we make every day and endanger ourselves of never actually reaching our destiny and God’s purposes. We must be a purpose driven people who set their sights on things above, things that are excellent and things that are eternal. Mary chose the good portion and she will be forever remembered in the Annuls of History as the one who found her One Thing, which will never be taken from her.

The Word of God is not some archaic, ancient book that should be ignored, it’s a book to be read, reread, studied, preached and lived out. All throughout History, those who listened to God’s Word walked with immeasurable anointing and favor.
