An odd Day

Maybe it was the food I ate today, or the prospects of moving to Lebanon, or the deliverance session I was leading last night, but I was in a funk today. I had no zest for life. Everything was so mundane and lackluster. With the swirl of favor and blessings, many open doors to preach and making great connections here in Korea, I felt empty. I was then reminded of the verses of Wisdom from Solomon:

“I observed everything going on under the sun, and really, it is all meaningless—like chasing the wind.” ‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭1:14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I could share Solomon’s sentiment and thoughts as my circumstances could not cheer me up. But what kept the embers of my heart alive was hope —hope of one day Jesus will come back and bring glory to a lackluster earth. I’ve tasted and tried what the world calls pleasure, but once I tasted and saw that the Lord is good, everything else seemed to lose its flavor.

There’s a reason why people are depressed and are driven to commit suicide. After chasing after temporary pleasures and find the heart never sated, we think that life on earth is all there is to life. But thankfully there is more.

All day I’ve been in a funk. I went to the store and bought some water and I had a split second whether to share Jesus and I did. I asked him if he believes in Jesus and he said his family is Buddhist. I then proceeded to encourage him to research the resurrection of Jesus. I shared how every human has and will die. Buddhas in the grave but Christ alone is alive and that he’s the only one with the power to come back to life. He is God. After I shared, I felt my heart come alive as I shared about the One I love.

This is why I love evangelism. It’s much more than obeying God’s command to love our neighbors and save souls, we get the chance to talk about the only one who can give us hope in this life. Everything else outside of Jesus are fleeting pleasures and after a while, they lose their merit, but Christ is an inexhaustible well of beauty and glory. The more we spend time in prayer beholding his face, sharing it to others as it builds up our faith talking about the Lord, it ignites our hearts with grace and wonder.

When evangelism is done out of love for Jesus, not because of the fear of punishment or duty, evangelism becomes a delight. May we never lose the wonder of Jesus.
