An unwasted liFe
Times of crisis, especially that produces an inner knowing that our lives are finite and are coming to an end, stirs a sense of urgency like nothing else can. We are creatures of habit and we’ve so conditioned our mental state to live in a state of comfort and ease that until crisis visits us, we’ll live complacent and compliant to everything that wants us to be passive and silent about the things that matter.
When I was on a plane from Kansas City to Los Angeles, I experienced a turbulence that shook me to the core and got me thinking that it was going to be the last seconds of my life on earth. I saw all the people on the plane who would most likely go to Hell (knowing that only about 6% of my generation have a biblical worldview), so I was about to preach my last message!
Thankfully, the plane stabilized and I let out a sigh of relief. Then the lady next to me looked over and said, “a shaking like that, even unbelievers would start believing in God!” I couldn’t agree with her more. Her statement and my disposition while the plane shook gave me a simple but deep understanding of how revival will come in these last days. Shakings awaken both believers and unbelievers. Believers will realize how little time with have, awaken to their mission, while unbelievers will be so shaken that they’ll call upon the name of the Lord!
A flight on a plane is a microcosm of our world today. People are minding their own business, casually living life, chit chatting and engaging in mostly non-essential things — watching movies, sipping on wine, eating meals, sleeping, etc. Then when a shaking happens, all of a sudden, the shakings gotten everyone’s attention. No one is thinking about movies, what they ate last week or their favorite TV show, they’re thinking: help!
When Jesus returns, God will shake the heavens and the earth in a magnitude that will catch everyone’s attention. His shakings are an expression of His mercy. Without them, people will not wake up to repent and save their souls. Shakings are terrifying but absolutely necessary for those with hardened hearts who won’t repent until there’s a crisis. God not only will work through gospel preaching revivalists, but at the end of the age, God will personally shake the earth and cause massive amounts of people entering into the Kingdom before Jesus returns.
This kind of perspective produces a sense of urgency. We must live each day like Jesus is at the very gates. We will see His face one day. Are you ready to see Him?
